3/31/25 addedum: i laugh every time i see this comment (from when americans were trying out xiaohongshu due to the tik tok ban) because this is how i felt in Harajuku 🤣🤣🤣

the story of why i have this dress always makes me giggle: i couldn't stop laughing at the ways blackness showed up in Harajuku. now, we can get into the actual problems with it. but honestly, as i solo-wandered down one block, met with tupac t-shirts, rasta cosplay, and heard both the wobble and no games by serani playing... with maybe only one other actual black person in sight, i just started laughing. when i saw this dress, i had the same response. i think it's the vibe association of africa by toto with bob marley LOL. and at the very least, unlike the block i just described, this shop is themed around upcycling rather than imitating blackness. i just happened to find this buried in the racks. every time i wear it, i laugh. i like the actual design too!
