sun in virgo, venus in virgo, very demure

it has been a long time since i was clued into a social media trend. i would've missed this one too had astrologer chani nicholas not brought the trend into my astrology bubble (aka the best way to access me on socials—advertisers, ou konn deja). i enjoyed her rendering of our transition from brat summer (as an enjoyer of pre-brat charli xcx, i was glad to leave the brat reality) into very demure autumn as a transition from venus in leo to venus in virgo.

as a natal venus in virgo, any... positive renderings of this placement catch my eye. if we wanna get real virgo mercurial about it (as in, let's get into the language and semantics), venus in virgo is legitimately demure. it is very mindful lol, very detailed, and has a natural reserve (that i think comes from having standards lol).

during a 5th house reading with astrologer maeg keane (highly recommend) they described my virgo venus as an apple priestess, touching the bark to see how the trees are doing based on the weather, writing poems on the leaves, and enjoying being in service to this orchard. it is a scene that speaks to the mindful, detailed, caring energy of virgo. what is this hermit's venus doing? it's in the apple orchard, quietly enjoying this beautiful and strange earth while becoming a better caregiver for their orchard. very kind. very calm. very polite. very mindful. just doing her work and keeping to herself, enjoying her niche interests and her slice of life. very demure lol!

this whole "very demure" trend actually helped me assess my own style as a human expressing the energy that is venus in virgo. i also have saturn quite close to my ascendant (demure as in sober, serious, & mature), a cancer sun (demure as in shy and modest, practicing humility), and a scorpio mars (demure as in reserved & waiting patiently) so i feel like that demure energy abounds a bit with their support. add in the fact that i grew up in boston, ma... a northeastern liberal elite, ghost of the puritans, curfews, permits, follow the etiquette & codes ass place—for me, there's no avoiding this vibe!

as i researched the definition of demure, i noticed that some definitions linked "demure" to the word "meek" and to this idea of being a "demure maiden" to attract the interest of a man. this reminded me of how virgo is a sign of service and that there is a humility and softness often taken for granted (and likely misunderstood) when discussing an archetype like virgo. and don't even get me started on the connotations the word "humility" has due to so much religous tramua. to me, humility is the understanding that you are not better or worse than any other expression of this reality.

virgo inhabits a posture of service born of a deep love for this existence, especially for the Earth. virgo's loyalty is to this beautiful planet! virgo cares so deeply for the Earth and is devoted to studying Earth magic. virgo is the archetype of the Earth alien that is a bit obsessed with exploring the biodiversity of reality because that is one way to celebrate just how strange and delightful an earthly experience can be.

the softness, service, and humility of an archetype like virgo have to do with devotion to the Earth, not performing to attract the interest of some dude... and if some dude wants a virgo venusian?!! be srs...that dude is gonna be the one having to put in the work to attract them lol, not the other way around. virgo venus doesn't doesn't settle.

going down this rabbit hole reminded me of an old (now drafted) blog post i shared about virgo and cancer as the archetypes of heresy in our present reality. i wrote this post literally a year ago (i am off by 2 days but still!). this writing is taken from an email conversation and has been heavily updated over time as i got better at articulating what i wanted to say. here is a snippet of the og post below, a virgo season gift to the other earth aliens, lovers of esoterica, astro angels, and philosophers:

"i think that venus in virgo (similar to cancer, in general) is like the heretic of this time. it’s pretty punk!! and that can be a hard destiny to enjoy for many. not everyone is comfortable in the position of heretic. and it takes a lot to be someone who is.

today i was thinking about this cliche i see about venus in virgo (and in quotes about love in general): “analysis is the enemy of love.” that sentiment is often cited as why venus in virgo is in fall. but, personally, i find that given that supremacy/elitism/separation is the current framework that runs human society, analysis is one of the only ways to actually access love. [note 3/31/25: astrologer Arianna Felix has a great series of writings called Love Exalted that talks about how planets in fall are where we find medicine that reconnects us to the dream each exalted planet represents. check it out: 1. venus in virgo, 2. venus in pisces ]

to me love in this context = interpersonal human love = the ways we care for each other & protect each other to inspire the feeling of love into one another. this also makes me think about what i learn from cancer. i think a lot about cancer as an archetype that can be about fleshing out what it feels like to not be cared for properly and why that feels painful to us as humans with feelings. it matters to care for each other properly in an elitist society and to do the WORK (virgo virgo virgo!) of caring for each other properly. this virgo season has inspired so much joy and celebration of simply doing the damn work.

in an elitist society, we’re so used to being neglected interpersonally—that’s just how i’m seeing it. there's a culture of abuse that permeates everything and has for so long now. there’s so little ability to access proper care for a variety of reasons. so many people are straight up numb and it’s status quo to expect people to treat you poorly. analysis in this society is so powerful for love because it enables us to make sure we are being cared for properly. what i’m trying to say is: in a society where interpersonal numbness and deceit are the status quo, venus in virgo occupies a subversive position. it is not numb, it has clear standards, it is precise, it knows how to care properly and wants to be cared for properly.

virgo is precise as hell!! i love this archetype for elaborating on the role of precision. the precision of virgo's analysis can come off as irritating, harsh, and creating more separation when out of balance. but in balance, it is what keeps us from settling for less than we know we need. it is what disrupts becoming comfortable with dynamics that do not actually nourish us.

and again, cancer knows that care is the meat of life, that without care we have nothing. because at the end of the day our humanity starts and ends with the fact that we have feelings and that our feelings move us to act. if we feel numb then we act in ways that numb ourselves and others. venus in virgo says WAKE UP!! this isn’t the right configuration. and venus in virgo is gonna materialize the right one. again and again. because life is fluid and mutable and always changing.

[astrologer] Av calls the archetypes virgo and cancer “destines of care” and they often talk about how they are hard destinies to carry but the world is a better and more balanced place because of it. destinies of care wake people up. they resist zombification and they resist elitism. ideally they lead to venus in pisces—aka the ideal that we should live in balance, awareness & with reverence for how we are all beautiful and strange melodies & beats in this divine polyrhythmic symphony called Life. it matters how we care for each other (which includes our ability to conflict with each other) because that’s the only way to maintain balance and emulate the natural harmony of Time in a very very creative and biodiverse reality."
